What is the policy and license
agreement regarding the use of FC Search (or any of the Foundation Center's
CD-ROM products) in Cooperating Collections?
The use of FC Search, as well as the Center's other CD-ROM databases, is
governed by the terms of a license which outlines the proper use of the software, the
database, and materials that comprise the product. This license applies to both
single user and local area network versions.
If a CC has the single
user version, the database may only be used by one user at a time on a single computer.
If a request was made for the network version, the database may be used on a local area
network only, where "local area network" means a network within one building.
It may be installed on a CD-ROM tower or server, and can be used simultaneously by an
unlimited number of users in that building.
Users must be physically present at the library. The database
may not be accessed via a modem connection or other wide area network devices.
FC Search disks (or any other of the Center's
databases on CD-ROM) may not be loaned out to staff or patrons for home use and may not be
installed on computers at locations other than the library designated as a Cooperating Collection.
In the fall of each year, CCs that have FC Search receive an update disk.
At that time, CCs are asked to replace the original disk with the update disk and destroy
the original disk, since it will time out within a month or so.
